  English

  The Ontario English program for Grades 7 to 12 focuses on building strong reading, writing, oral communication, and media literacy skills. In Grades 7 and 8, students develop foundational skills through a variety of texts while learning to think critically and express ideas clearly. As of grade 9, the program becomes more specialized, with courses designed to match students’ pathways toward university, college, or the workplace. Students study novels, poetry, and media while refining their analytical and writing skills. There is a strong emphasis on communication, creativity, and the formation of well-supported opinions. By Grade 12, students are prepared to meet post-secondary expectations with advanced reading, writing, and critical-thinking skills. All students must complete the Ontario Secondary School Literacy program in order to meet graduation requirements.

  Mathematics

  The Ontario Math program for Grades 7 to 12 builds a strong foundation in numeracy, problem solving, and logical thinking. In Grades 7 and 8, students focus on core concepts such as number sense, algebra, geometry, and data management. As of grade 9, math becomes more specialized, with course options aligned with different post-secondary pathways. Students develop skills in algebra, functions, and real-world applications of mathematics. There is an emphasis on reasoning, problem-solving, and applying math to everyday situations. By Grade 12, students are prepared for the mathematical demands of university, college, or the workplace.

  Science

  The Ontario Science program for Grades 7 to 12 encourages curiosity, exploration, and a deeper understanding of the natural world. In Grades 7 and 8, students are introduced to key scientific fields such as life systems, matter and energy, structures, and earth and space. As they move into grade 9, students can choose from focused courses in biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science based on their interests and goals. Senior-level courses offer more rigorous study and are designed to support pathways into university programs like medicine, engineering, and research. By graduation, students have developed the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a wide range of science-related fields.

  The Ontario Social Studies program for Grades 7 to 12 helps students understand the world, their place in it, and how the past shapes the present. In Grades 7 and 8, students explore history and geography through themes like citizenship, global communities, and environmental awareness. As of grade 9, the program expands into more focused studies in Canadian and world history, geography, and civics. Students examine real-world issues, analyze different perspectives, and build strong research and inquiry skills. There is a clear emphasis on critical thinking, responsible citizenship, and understanding global connections. By Grade 12, students are equipped to engage thoughtfully with the world around them and make informed decisions about their future.

  The Ontario French program for Grades 7 to 12 builds confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in French. In the early years, students develop everyday communication skills and begin to understand French culture. Learning becomes more immersive with each grade level, with a focus on oral communication, comprehension, and expression. Students grow their vocabulary, improve fluency, and gain confidence. By Grade 12, they can communicate clearly and are well prepared to continue using French in post-secondary studies, travel, or the workplace.

  The Ontario electives program for Grades 7 to 12 gives students the freedom to explore their interests and discover new strengths. In the early years, students are introduced to a variety of subjects, such as the arts, technology, and physical education. In high school, they can choose more specialized courses that align with their passions and future goals. Options may include business, computer studies, health and nutrition, the arts, and more. These courses encourage creativity, skill development, and real-world application. By Grade 12, students have a more personalized learning experience that supports their individual pathway.
