A New Parent Partnership Model for Grades 1–4

Over the years, we have seen many changes to our programs as we adjust to the needs of an ever-changing society and community of homeschooled families in Quebec. For 2026-2027, we are introducing our new Grades 1-4 program, which focuses more on parent support than online attendance. The key changes are: instead of having children attend weekly online classes, the new program centers on weekly parent-advisor meetings. Parents will get hands-on support to guide their child's learning at home, manage course tasks, and understand teacher expectations. This shift means less scheduled screen time for students and more direct, practical guidance for you as a parent, allowing for greater flexibility in your weekly routine.
We have discovered that most children at this age still need significant support from parents at home, whether it’s in learning to read, practising handwriting skills or just general course management, downloading and uploading assignments and reviewing feedback from teachers. In this program, parents will be expected to help their child with the following specific tasks each week:

- Guide their child through the weekly lesson plans provided by the advisor
- Assist with reading and completing assignments
- Support handwriting practice and basic literacy or numeracy skills as needed
- Download assignments and upload completed work to Blackbaud
- Review teacher feedback and help implement suggested improvements
- Prepare any necessary materials or resources for the week
- Attend the weekly parent-advisor meeting to discuss progress and plan next steps.

By knowing these responsibilities ahead of time, you can assess how the program fits with your family's weekly routine and your availability to support your child's learning.

At the same time, we want to ensure that the same quality of instruction and evaluation is provided, not to mention the ongoing support with ministry paperwork and meetings that we are so well known for.

So, our new structure is as follows: Parents of students in grades 1-4, with or without their children present, will meet with one of our experienced advisors once a week to review the student workload for the week. Meetings are held online via a secure video platform for your convenience, removing the need for travel. You will be able to select regular meeting times at the start of the year and, if necessary, reschedule with your advisor as needed. As in other classes, work will be posted in Blackbaud, and the teacher will provide feedback. This individualized approach means we can fully adapt to the needs of your child and family, modifying or providing enriched assignments as needed.

Keeping things online makes the transition to middle school easier once students reach grade 5.

Keeping meetings to once a week means a significant reduction in cost to parents. In fact, with this new approach, families can expect program fees to be over 50% lower compared to the Grades 5-8 model with weekly student classes, making the program more affordable while still providing hands-on support.

What’s not to love about that!

With best wishes for your child's education,
Sinéad
